The one thing that blows me away whilst spending time in Japan is the fact that in amongst the buildings and the structures, you can find beautiful hidden jams like this Shrine dedicated to Rabbits.

This is my dear friend- Bethany. She is an incredibly talented photographer and asked me to take couple headshots for her new website. We did just that and them got carried away and end up with 800 raw pictures of outcome. This picture shows the free spirit of my friend and her natural beauty.

This photo is taken after the sunset when most of the other photographers have left this popular spot in Laguna Beach. Finally there are no more people in the frame and the lights from the far away added more color to the picture.

NGC 4565 – the Needle Galaxy Located between 30 – 50 million light years away, it’s the most prominent edge-on spiral galaxies we have in our view. Residing near the North Galactic Pole in the constellation Coma Berenices (named for “Berenice's Hair" in Latin and refers to Queen Berenice II of Egypt, who cut off her hair in gratitude to the gods for the safe return of her husband from battle), it has a spatial diameter of 140,000 light-years (Milky Way = 105,000 ly) and is estimated to contain a trillion stars (Milky Way 250-400 billion). With the darkness from a central dust lane obscuring much of the visual core of the galaxy, it’s very similar to our view of the core our Milky Way, and as such is studied extensively by astronomers.

I captured this photo in woods of Vail, Colorado this afternoon. I used my 70-200 lens with a 2x and high shutter speed so I could rapid fire handheld before he scurried off to find his lunch. Spring is only a couple weeks away, and this handsome fella is ready to hunt!

I cry a tear of hate but it is lost in helplessness. The darkness eats away at the very embers of my soul For the deepest love I have has dissolved before my eyes. My sorrow is bleak, I beg for deliverance. All emotion is consumed by an inner silence. All grief is unassuaged by disconsolate tears. I want for nothing, I live for nothing. I am waiting to die, but I am afraid dying. Lord, in your mercy, hear my prayer. Crestfallen emotion. Wallowing in guilt trying and drowning forevermore Falling deeper into fear. My inner self is now a sleeper of stone. ~ Anathema

Lagos was actually the first place I was able to get really close to seagulls. There where a lot of them on the beaches and they were constantly fighting for the places with the best views. I tried to get a close shot and moved a little closer with every picture I took, but at some point my respect of them just got too big, so I stayed away. This one, that was actually taken from further away is definitely my favorite.

Last weekend I made the long drive to Bathurst to watch the 12 hour GT race that comes on once a year. Every year they close a public road that drives around a mountain to host a 12 hour endurance race. This year is my third year and I was blown away with the quality of cars that were there.

Like one of my other photos at the same event I took this shot to show the blend between man and machine, to show that behind the race car that is on the track there is a hard working team putting that car together.

Messier 101 - the Pinwheel Galaxy. A grand-design spiral galaxy that's estimated to be approximately 21 million light years away and 170,000 light years across, compared to the Milky Way's 250,000 light year diameter, it's estimated to be home to around one trillion stars - more than double the Milky Way. Its asymmetrical shape is due to gravitational forces from surrounding smaller galaxies, one of which is visible in the upper right of the frame, a smaller elliptical galaxy, NGC 5204. This shot is just about ten hours (118 x 300s) of total exposure taken with a ZWO ASI294MC-Pro through an Explore Scientific ED127CF at 952mm focal length.

Messier 13 – the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules Located in the armpit of the constellation Hercules, M13 is one of the best known globular clusters in the northern hemisphere. Discovered by Edmond Halley (for whom the comet is named) in 1714 and cataloged by Charles Messier in 1764, it’s a cluster of several hundred thousand closely grouped stars. The stars are about 100 times more densely packed than in our area of the galaxy. It’s estimated to be approximately 22.2 thousand light years away, with a diameter of 145 light years. The galaxy in the upper right is NGC 6207, which is about 30 million light years away and 34,000 light years across. Globular clusters reside in the halo of a galaxy as opposed to the disk and are bound together by gravitational forces. There are about 150 known globular clusters in the Milky Way, with an estimated 20 more hidden by dust lanes. They are generally comprised of very old stars, and M13 is estimated to be 11.65 billion years old. The process in which globular clusters are created is largely unknown, but it’s hypothesized that they originate from areas of starburst activity and interactions between galaxies. There is no known active star formation in any of theses clusters, but due to the proximity of the stars collisions occur, and new stars are created. These new stars are called “blue stragglers”, some of which may be seen in the photo. The proximity of the stars (on average about one light year apart) also creates many binary star systems (think Tatooine), but due to the age and makeup of the stars there are very few with planets. This is about 3:15 hours of exposure.

Discovered in 1781 by the French astronomer and comet hunter, Pierre Méchain, the Sombrero galaxy is a lenticular galaxy, which is a classification between full elliptical and spiral, meaning that it has a disc structure but without spiral arms. It’s about 31 million light years away in the constellation of Virgo and about 50 million light years across (one-third of the Milky Way’s diameter). Astronomers have determined that the supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy is about 1 billion solar masses, making it one of the largest in nearby galaxies. They’ve also determined that there are between 1,200 and 2,000 globular clusters present, more than ten times the estimate for the Milky Way’s population, and they’ve been able to correlate the prevalence of globular clusters with the amount of bulge in the galaxy. Using infrared spectroscopy astronomers have also determined that the bulk of star formation occurs within the highly contrasted dust lane. This is 2:20 hours of exposure.
