I was walking around at Pride 2019 in New York to portrait interesting people and scenes. I met this amazing person making poses. I managed to make an angle so that the sun hit the face to make those cheekbones stand out even more. I also really like the shadow the hat makes on the top of the face.

This is a 151-second exposure of a SpaceX Falcon 9 delivering 60 Starlink satellites to orbit on the evening of May 23, 2019. Shot near the 7-story Exploration Tower, the streak and the tower have a nice mirror symmetry. I would love to say that I planned this. I was heading to another spot about 3 miles west to photograph the launch and the new owners had a chain across the road and ominous "No Trespassing" signs, so I had to choose another spot to set up with about 15 minutes to go.

Gedhun Choekyi Nyima was recognised by the Dalai Lama as the 11th Panchen Lama on 14 May 1995 at the age of six. Three days later, on 17 May, he along with his parents went missing. Reffered as “Tibet’s Stolen Child”, he is the youngest political prisoner in the world.

Police fires tear gas at Yellow Vest demonstrators during the 25th weekend of protests in the streets of Lyon, France. Police violence is at its highest since the 1950s. There is an extensive use of tear gas, sting-ball grenades and LBDs ("defense ball launchers") against largely peaceful protestors. According to official numbers, as of now, 1.428 tear gas grenades and 13.460 rubber bullets have been fired. As of now (May 5th, 2019), 23 persons lost an eye and 5 persons their hand during protests (source: mediapart.fr, http://tiny.cc/6hd85y).

This is our star being eclipsed by our moon during an annular eclipse. I viewed this in Tokyo during the early hours of May 20th, 2012. I still remember the anticipation in everyone's faces due to the fact that the clouds would not open the sky to us but also because the light around us began to dim and we knew our window of opportunity to see the eclipse was fading. It was only in the last 10 or so minutes did the clouds thin out and leave a very translucent layer for the sun to be able to shine its light through for us to see a massive ring appear above us.

The Boardman Tree farm in northern Oregon was an incredible place to visit. The 25,000 acres of poplar trees made for an almost otherworldly experience in the fall. The farm was sold in January of 2016 to be cut down and used for cow pastures and agriculture. This photo was taken during during the autumn of 2016 before the bulk of the man made forest was removed. Small sections reportedly still remain, but not at the mind blowing scale of a few years ago.

The girl in the picture is my friend. The only girl I know who is fearless, tough, strong and active. I always get inspired by her. She loves to study, study and study. She is a University debater and she won Miss Malaysian Indian 2018. She had so many struggles in her life to be in this position. The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras is one of Australia’s biggest tourist drawcards, with the parade and dance party attracting many international and domestic tourists. It is New South Wales’ second-largest annual event in terms of economic impact, generating an annual income of about A$30 million for the state. The event grew from gay rights parades held annually since 1978 and has been a major help in passing the same-sex marriage legislation in Australia on 9 December 2017.

A year ago, I had the courage to capture the happenings during the Chinese New Year in Binondo, Manila. It was quite challenging to brave the large crowd under the scorching heat. However, discovering different scenarios and people like the vendor (he doesn’t sell mushrooms btw) is one of a kind experience. This 2019, I covered the event once again but I didn’t meet the vendor this time.
