Durdle Door

Durdle Door (sometimes written Durdle Dor) is a natural limestone arch on the Jurassic Coast near Lulworth in Dorset, England.
It is privately owned by the Welds, a family who owns 12,000 acres (50 km2) in Dorset in the name of the Lulworth Estate. It is open to the public. The name Durdle is derived from the Old English word ‘thirl' meaning bore or drill.

Part of what I love about photography is the limitless possibilities and chances to be creative. We had a whole photo shoot planned out until it began to rain. We were about to leave until we found this lantern in the back. The final end product was this simple, yet moody photo that is, to this day, one of my favorite captures.

We drove down this road, chasing the silky, wavering fabric of the last golden light of the day. As we weaved around the rocky bend of this mountainous road, we caught sight of this lonely rock, standing mighty and tall, of which we could only describe as the international step brother of the Swiss Matterhorn

Last december I took my first long international flight ever. It was from Hong Kong to Auckland after having one from Zurich to Hong Kong. I spent 2 weeks in New Zealand after that, to visit my girlfriend who lives there.

After climbing to the top of this very snowy hill on Danco Island in the Antarctic Peninsula, we were greeted with a full panorama across the bay. When you realise that the boat we were staying on was 147m long, it really made you realise just how monumental and huge this untouched continent is.

6am start for a zodiac cruise in the aptly named Paradise Harbour.

As we silently drifted past huge icebergs with the snow falling, we were surrounded by at least 12 ‘bubble net feeding’ humpback whales. Genuinely had no idea which direction to look, they were everywhere!
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Paradise indeed.

The Drake Passage is famous for it’s rough conditions. However I spent most of my time leaning off the side of the boat, not only looking for whales and dolphins, but also to stare at the beautiful (and freezing) seas.

The Aurora Borealis is the magic ingredient that makes polar landscapes even more special and rare. When it appears, it might be small and almost invisible, or standing as a quiet line over the head. But it can suddenly explode in a vortex of green shadows, sometimes with some magenta edges here and there, illuminating the whole sky and the landscape around. Any cold sensation disappears.

Lagos was actually the first place I was able to get really close to seagulls. There where a lot of them on the beaches and they were constantly fighting for the places with the best views. I tried to get a close shot and moved a little closer with every picture I took, but at some point my respect of them just got too big, so I stayed away. This one, that was actually taken from further away is definitely my favorite.

My first morning in ghyangphedi I washed my dirty face in the river. Left my glasses on a rock and screamed when the glacier water hit my face. Eventually the sun rose high enough to sneak its warmth into this deep valley. Giving the perfect opportunity to bath for the first time in a week and jump into the freezing water.
